Top 5 reasons to exercise outdoors

1.Natural light

Exercising outdoors is a great way to increase levels of vitamin D. Deficiency of vitamin D has been linked to increased risk of a host of chronic conditions, including osteoporosis and heart disease.

This is my Saturday morning Boxercise Brighton group, they love to get their weekend started in style with a workout that runs from 9.30 to 10am. Jo loves this session- “I work in an office environment all week and love to be outside in the fresh air and space on a Saturday morning.” To find out more about our Boxercise classes click here.

2. Improved levels of happiness

Exposure to natural sunlight combined with physical activity is thought to increase serotonin levels in our bodies, which can improve feelings of well-being and happiness. Serotonin is a mood-enhancing chemical, and a deficiency has been linked to depression, anxiety, fatigue, and impaired cognitive function.

3. Varied and imaginative workouts

If you are looking to refresh your exercise regime, taking the gym outside is a great challenge. You’ll have less equipment to work with but you can always find ways to use features in the park, or your garden to add interest- we often use benches for dips or step ups, fences to anchor resistance bands and ropes or trees for prisoner squats. Working on uneven ground can also activate different muscles to those used in the gym.

4. lots of space

Perhaps you live in a flat or smaller property, where space is at a premium. Maybe you use a gym which is often rammed with people before and after work. Our green spaces and parks present a great opportunity to reconnect with nature, your mind and body.

5. no gym fees

Exercising in our green spaces is a great alternative to gym membership and a great deal cheaper. According to research by online accountants Crunch.co.uk, Brits are wasting £37million a year on gym memberships, exercise and slimming classes they never attend. Why not use our parks? Better still use our services to create accountability and let us take the stress out of your workout.
