Having been a Personal Trainer for over 10 years, I have coached hundreds of people to become happier and healthier using the structure of Three Pillars of Fitness. The Three Pillars are 1. Exercise, 2. Nourishment and 3. Mindset. We help our clients to change their behaviour using our third pillar- Mindset.

Why is sustainable behaviour such a challenge?

Your brain and your mind are the keeper of every function that your body is capable of, including movement, thoughts, feelings and fear. Your brain and central nervous system have one key function: to keep you alive (heart beating, lungs breathing), allowing you to survive.

Our amazing brain, also learns to love what it knows and practices, so creates autonomy around our day to day lives. The automatic tasks, such as eating, driving, brushing your teeth, or always having a packet of crisps in front of the TV, happen with little or no effort. Here lies our problem….

Most of the people I support to become healthier, need to change their day-to-day habits around Exercise and Nourishment, but their behaviours are so well practiced that they do them with little effort. Disrupting automatic habits feels strange and creates feelings of fear and uncertainty. Fear of change is perceived by our brain as a risk, and we will do whatever we can to reduce this risk so that we can survive. This often means relapsing to past non serving behaviours because they require little effort and feel comfortable.


Behaviour change coaching is about letting YOU make the decision on what needs to change, we do this using a very simple structure which looks like this:

  1. We ask open questions.

  2. We listen carefully to your challenges and discomforts whilst reflecting with you to create awareness.

  3. We help shape conversations with you so that you can find your own solutions.

  4. Then we use our professional skills and experiences to fine tune your solutions and ideas.

  5. We create clarity by agreeing actions (driven by you).

  6. Our skills Keep you accountable and focused on short term goals through consistent communication.

  7. Finally we support and encourage things that you are doing well, whilst encouraging you to progress toward your goals.

Your survival instincts are holding you back!

In short, change is perceived as risky and uncomfortable by our brain, which see’s change as a threat to our survival . None of us like to be uncomfortable or to have our survival threatened, so we default to old (well practiced) non serving behaviours. Driven by the deep seated and intrinsic need to survive.

Many people fail to become healthier in the long term, because they are following someone else’s regime, one that is not suited to their values, beliefs and preferences.

The basic premise is that building a lifestyle which is going to help you reach your goals and maintain your results needs to come from you, my role, as a behaviour coach is to co pilot with you on your journey to master your three pillars: Exercise, Nourishment and Mindset.

I help you to make decisions about h0w to change, YOU dictate the route of change and action. Working with me does not require to follow my rules or my values, but to support you in finding your own.

There are two routes to long term behavioural change:

1. Wrestle to meet my expectations and rules or 2. create your own expectations and rules. The second is easier and is a more enjoyable process! We often know what to do, but don’t do it, because we aren’t ready. Here at Three Pillars of Fitness we are determined not to tell you what to, do as this only works in the short term. We support you in long term change that matters to you.
